Looking good
Improving your appearance isn’t just about getting a facelift and being a beauty queen. Making small changes to your appearance can significantly positively impact your self-esteem and general mental health.
Feeling better about the way you look can help you love yourself more, which will improve the way others perceive you.
Try some of these tips below on ways to improve your appearance to make yourself look even better!
Hygiene
The first step to making sure you look as good as you can is to follow good hygiene practices. Ensure you brush and floss your teeth every day, so your smile sparkles.
Shower every day and whenever you feel a bit sweaty. Try to prevent any lingering smells, so you feel confident as you step out of the house.
Also, make sure your hair and nails are clean and your hair is brushed. Try to incorporate all of this into a daily routine to become a habit.
Hydration
Staying hydrated is key to keeping your body healthy. But it also does wonders for your skin and appearance.
Try to drink 2 liters of water every day and start the day with a glass of water before you even have your first coffee. This will wake up your brain, so you’re firing on all cylinders and will help flush out any toxins.
Being dehydrated can make you feel very low on energy, which can impact the way you look. You begin to look drained without enough water, and your skin suffers.
Drinking plenty of water will help your skin stay healthy and glowing and will help to prevent any spot outbreaks.
Skincare
Routine
Having bad skin can make you feel awful, regardless of what you are wearing or how nice your hair looks. So make sure you follow a good skincare routine.
Maybe even invest in some of the more expensive skincare products if you’re struggling with bad skin. It is important to exfoliate and moisturize every day to keep skin looking and feeling fresh and clean.
Try to avoid ever going to sleep with your make-up on. This can clog your pores and cause spots, so be sure to remove make-up before bed.
Also, ensure your pillowcases are washed regularly. Dirty pillowcases can cause spots and can also impair sleep quality.
Fresh air
Let your skin breathe! Go out into the fresh air as much as possible and get some sun on your face for a bit of color.
But be sure to use sunscreen whenever you go in the sun. UV rays can cause wrinkles, aging skin, and even skin cancer. Looking after your skin should be a priority and can help you to stay look young and beautiful as you get older.
Diet
What you eat will have a huge impact on how you look. Of course, eating lots of junk food will make you gain weight and could result in spots on your face and pale skin. Instead, try to eat your five fruit and vegetables every day, and this will keep your skin looking fresh and help you feel energized and healthy.
If you feel you need to lose weight, do so carefully. The aim should be to appear healthy, not skinny. Improve your diet by making it healthier, rather than restricting yourself to certain foods. It would help if you still had lots of energy from food, so try to get the nutrients and vitamins you need daily.
Exercise
Exercising can help you lose weight if you need to. It can also just keep you healthy and strong. The stronger your body is, the better you will feel about it.
Your self-confidence is a key part of how you are perceived, so staying fit and feeling good about your body will improve your appearance and how you think about how you look.
Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial to looking and feeling good. It is recommended that we get 8 hours of sleep per night. Our bodies regenerate and repair while we are asleep, including restoring skin tissues.
If we don’t get enough sleep, we can appear tired and gaunt, with dark under-eye circles. As a result, you have less energy, which can impact your mood negatively and cause you to feel less resilient.
Practice good sleep hygiene and try to maintain a routine for bedtime. Avoid sugar and screen time before bed to have a good rest and aim to get up at the same time each morning.
Clothes
Wearing different outfits can make you look and feel like another person. If you have the funds, try buying a new wardrobe or a few garments to help you look good.
Even if you can’t buy anything expensive or extravagant, try to avoid wearing scruffy clothing with holes and stains. This will make you look like you don’t care about your appearance and impact how people perceive you.
Buy clothes that are the correct size. Often people buy baggy clothes to hide their bodies or tight clothes that they hope to soon fit into. Unfortunately, neither of these options will help you look good.
Try to find styles that suit your body shape or cover areas you aren’t as confident about. The key is that you feel good in what you are wearing, which will automatically improve your appearance to others.
Posture
You can demonstrate your mood to others through the way you hold yourself. People who feel depressed, for example, often don’t make eye contact with others, keep their heads low, and their shoulders scrunched over. It can be very evident to others that you don’t feel good, which will impact how they perceive you.
Body language is a huge part of your appearance, so try to have good posture and stand up straight, and you will look and feel more confident and in control. This will improve your appearance and contribute to your attractiveness.
Be sure you are wearing the correct bra size, which can dramatically impact your posture. Wearing the wrong size can be very bad for your back and make you feel uncomfortable. However, many women do wear the wrong size! So either measure yourself or go to a store where they can do it for you.
Smile
Smiling immediately makes you look better. People will absorb your positivity and feel enamored by you. You will also feel better if you smile, even if you don’t always feel like it.
Some studies show that by smiling when you feel down, you can improve your mood by almost tricking your brain into thinking you’re happy. Being in a good mood makes you look and feel good.
If you have issues with your teeth or don’t feel confident when you smile, you can ask your dentist to help you. There are available services such as teeth whitening or straightening that will help you love your smile and want to show it off!
Hair
If your hair looks scruffy or unclean, it can make you appear less attractive. Keep it washed and brushed to feel good about it.
Get regular hair cuts to get rid of those split ends to keep your hair healthy and shiny. You know that feeling after you’ve just been to get your hair done and you feel like a celebrity with gorgeous locks. Aim to feel that every day!
If you want to drastically change your appearance to look better, you could try an entirely new hairstyle, or try dying it a different color.
Please don’t do either of these things without thinking about them first! Check what will suit you as you might end up hating that short bob after it’s been cut and it’s too late by then.
Facial hair
Make it a part of your routine to remove facial hair so you feel attractive. Knowing you have a few dark hairs on your upper lip will ruin whatever look you’re trying and destroy your confidence. Spend a bit of time on self-care to remove these.
Also, keep on top of your eyebrows. Don’t let them get too overgrown and try to keep them plucked and shaped. This will enhance your facial features and can make a huge difference to your appearance.
Focus on your best feature
Think about what you consider to be your best feature and try to enhance it. For example, maybe you have a toned flat stomach. So you can wear crop tops or tight tops that accentuate your figure. Or perhaps you have a lovely smile, so choose some nice lipstick colors to enhance this.
Similarly, decide what is your worst feature and try to conceal this. If you have huge ears that stick out, find a hairstyle that covers them and helps you feel confident.
Avoid
Some things are going to impact your appearance negatively. For example, very sugary foods, alcohol, and cigarettes can all negatively impact your appearance.
They can make you gain weight, have worsening skin, and cause you to have yellow teeth. You don’t have to abstain from these completely, but be conscious of their impact.
Love yourself
Whatever changes you make, be sure to do them with self-love. Try to make decisions that will enhance your natural qualities.
Also, be mindful of how you talk to yourself about your appearance, avoiding any self-deprecating statements.
You are beautiful, so remind yourself of that every day!
